Several ceramic sherds from the 18th and 19th centuries bore evidence of attempts to repair cracked or broken pieces. The repairs may have been done for sentimental reasons or just to maintain the items serviceability. It was not necessarily a sign of low economic status but may have been an early form of Yankee thrift (although it is found elsewhere aside from New England).
