While 17th century style pipes were also found, these 18th century Heelless Funnel pipes were the most common. Contrary to popular misconception, people did not break off the end of the pipe when they were sharing one pipe, that’s not why we find so many stems. it is simply that these pipe stems were long and easily broken.
