This seemingly innocuous piece of what looks like hard mud is actually a piece of Native made pottery that probably dates to the 17th century. Based on the artifacts that we have found at the Knoll Site, which occupies the same location as the later Richard and Ruth Taylor homesite, it appears that Native people lived here about 3,500 years ago and then again in the 17th century.
