The possession of a horse for riding versus its use pulling a cart or a plow was an indicator of wealth and social standing in the 17th and 18th centuries. The same could be said of the use of silver versus brass or iron for the buckle used on the riding spur. The recovery of a silver spur buckle from the site shows us that Richard Taylor was a man of means and not someone poor in coin.
